Reality Kicks

Just when I’m starting to enhance my fashion sense, reality enters the scene and kicks me big time.

No, I am not the type of creature with a tendency to invade the ramp. Nor do I have the killer looks or smile or pose. In fact, I have countless zits invading my façade, cavities tearing down my first tool of digestion, and body structure that seem to have osteoporosis. I am not being humble. I am being honest. Assets? Well, I have the height – not just any other height, but THE height. I think I also have the brain, because I graduated Class Valedictorian with numerous medals and certificates and awards. I am sociable, because despite my inability to look friendly, I still have my friends slash classmates who have such amazing patience, I should say, because they’ve gotten used to me, to my ways and to my personality. I used to live in harmony with all my liabilities, because I thought my assets would somehow compensate these flaws. But there comes a sudden point in your life when you think you’ve had enough of all those stares, of all those murmurs about how out-of-fashion I am, those inferiorities you feel when you’re with “fashion” people, all of these I consider as a defeat. And I hate being defeated. There will always come a point in your life that you can say that intelligence or cleverness, for the first time, wouldn’t count, but your ability to cope with what the society dictates, in this case, fashion and beauty.

I know, I shouldn’t let them get into me blah blah. I know that life is unfair, and that you couldn’t have everything blah blah. But I also know of the saying that ‘If you cant beat them…’ No, I wouldn’t join them, if that’s what you’re thinking. I somehow made minor changes to it, and in my universe, it ends with ‘rule them’. I do not necessarily join them, but lead them, because I’ll become a hybrid. I can be ironic in the sense that I can be an intellectual and the person the society dictates.

So this sudden change in me started just this New Year. You remember what I told you about the inferiority thing? It reaches its maximum when I’m with my sisters. Yep, they are the fashionistas of the family. When we’re together, I look like their driver or boy or something. What, with my bleak appearance and my resistance to conform to the society, who wouldn’t think so? So I was thinking, maybe spending a little on some creams and ‘beauty products’ and some apparels should do the trick. And so I bought this whitening this, and moisturizing that and exfoliating this, and cool that and reversible this. And then it gradually became frenzy. I can’t leave a mall without even visiting those boutiques which I used to despise. I window-shop, yeah,. But there were really times when I could suddenly feel this urge to splurge. After spending, I would feel remorse and start to think why I gave in and stuff.

So you were actually wondering what’s reality got to do with this? Well, simple. I am broke. No, bankrupt. Insolvent. Penniless. Solvent. Whatever you call it. Seems like the universe is playing tricks on me. Now that I’m starting to care about my looks and all it is also the time when I realize that I cannot afford this and that.

Bottom line is that you really can’t have it all. Maybe that’s the reason why we’re given with a brain with two-sides, the right to give empirical reasons to almost everything, and the left-side to compensate what the other can’t explain. So wander, left-part of my brain. I guess I still could be the hybrid in my dreams.

So we actually talked about our future kids. A friend, who we’ll call starting today as Narcissus, opened up this conversation, and he was saying the names of his would-be kids, that they would be twins and that he wouldn’t stop until he doesn’t get one. Unbelievable, I know. I know he’s joking and all, but the thought…

My conservative friend, PurpleHater blurted her concerns on Narcissus would-be wife, “What if she tells you to stop?” And then Narcissus would just say, “So I’ll look for another one.” Unbelievable squared.

Since this is my world, I can only assume that they would really ask me about the names of my kids. To accomplish this mission, they started to joke that I would name my kids Debit or Credit, since I was reading an Accounting Book. N even said I’d name one of my kids Liability. That would be unfair to my child. But I’d like to assume that she is the most beautiful among my kids. And then N added that another child would be named Fully Depreciated. I commented that she would be the most virgin of my kids, and that she would be a nun to prove her chastity. Now I was beginning to think that I am slowly acting as a father, that even before they were born, I am already defending them. Great.

Bu seriously, I really want to name my boy child Johan, pronounced as “yow-han”. Or maybe Raphael, as in “raf-fei-el”. If she would be a she, then maybe Angel.

They say women are better name-picker that males. If by male, they refer to N, then maybe they were right. Otherwise, uhm, I dunno.

randomness

can't think of anything to write.

im here at my mom's office. yeah. it's already like 9:15 pm. we're having a graveyard shift. im not really an employee here. my mom just got no company so i volunteered to be her company for, uhmm, i really dont know till when.

anyway. since i got a chance to use one of the computers here,i decided to check my mails, my accounts in some online community sites, and browse and do some information digging.

it's kinda boring in here. but i think this is the best night so far. because in the previous nights, i haven't got an access to any computer. so it was more like me and my mp4 and my cellphone buddy in a bed made of inter-connected chairs. actually, its just a borrowed mp4. *laughs*

financial constraint really is our main problem in the family. and whenever this topic's brought up, it gets kinda boring since it's like one of the many dilemma of a typical filipino family.

im not really sure if i could continue my schooling this second year. i mean, yeah, i applied for a tuition assistance but i dont give it much thought because i know they wont be of any help. all they can do is try to scutinize your life, look for faults and flaws, and then assign you to a certain bracket which they consider as "cheap" already. they just dont give a damn on what is really our current situation. we can't even afford to buy my way to the university everyday. we dont even have a decent place to call home since we only live with my relatives.

the heck with them. my relatives couldn't help because they also have their own personal financial constraint problem and stuff.

talking about relatives, i am having this kind of bad relationship with one of my cousins. i dont know. i just hate him. his mere face or existence or presence or voice, or smell, or even shadow make my blood boil. better not talk about him.

anyway. i am actually browsing this site called "vote for the worst" dot com. *laughs* the objective was kinda amusing. the settings, the people, the comments, the whole stuff you know. the concept behind the site, everything. it's kinda cute. but i wondered, did they really hate american idol that much that they set up a site to destroy the reality show? tsk tsk.

i think that's for now. i am hoping that the internet connection in the house will be back. i kinda missed the usual things i do whenever i surf the net. i dont enjoy doing this in this very computer that im using because it's kinda old stuff. i wanna download better, or maybe the latest softwares in town, but i guess i should not do that because the company may sue me.

good nyt ya all. ^^

Hedonism

I was raised with the idea that there’s a reason behind everything that beyond a reason lays another deeper, and universal reason. I say universal because that certain reason doesn’t only apply to some individuals, but to everyone in general. I don’t have an idea what that certain reason is, until I stumbled upon a term I have yet to know – Hedonism. What is it? And what does it have to do with human actions?
Hedonism originated from the Greek word hedonismos or hedone which literally means pleasure. As defined by Catholic Encyclopedia, it is the name given to the group of ethical systems that hold, with various modifications, that feelings of pleasure or happiness are the highest and final aim of conduct; that, consequently those actions which increase the sum of pleasure are thereby constituted right, and, conversely, what increases pain is wrong.
First of all, let us define or state the scope of the word “pleasure”. Pleasure is commonly conceptualized as a positive experience related to happiness, entertainment, enjoyment, ecstasy, and euphoria. The father of Hedonism, Aristippus of Cyrene, defines pleasure as something that is not only limited to sensual gratification but also the higher forms of enjoyment, mental pleasures, domestic love, friendship, and moral contentment. In Philosophy, it is defined as the absence of pain. So, anything that pertains to experiences or feelings that are painless are considered as pleasure. Pain, on the other hand, includes all unpleasant feeling or experience such as aches, throbs, irritations, anxiety, anguish, chagrin, discomfort, despair, grief, depression, guilt and remorse. The latter is the negation of the former.
The basic idea behind the hedonistic thought is that pleasure is the only thing that is good for man. It is man’s everyday goal, that is, in every action or activity he does, the reason behind those activities is the realization or achievement of pleasure. It is true that the philosophy suggests that we should pursue our own pleasure, but it doesn’t mean that we should live a life of selfishness; that we should only hinder others from arriving to that same objective.
So when does hedonism become morally ethical?
The fact that the end-product of every man’s activity, as what the thought implies, is the achievement of the doer’s pleasure is already ethical. But, let us not be deceived by the statement’s ambiguity because it is also a fact that one can be happy by the mere reason that some suffer, especially the ones they call enemies.
John Stuart Mill’s and Jeremy Bentham’s philosophy on Utilitarianism states that we should perform whichever action is best for everyone. When this concept is conjoined with the concept of Hedonism, it yields this concept: all action should be directed toward achieving the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest number of people. I could infer that whenever we do things or perform any action, it should result to, not only in the achievement or realization of the doer’s pleasure, but also to the benefit or the realization of the pleasures of the majority. Hedonism, in this manner, becomes morally ethical since ‘selfishness’ is eliminated.
This concept could also be conjoined with Sigmund Freud’s Psychological Egoism. Freud’s philosophy states that man is motivated to pursue what is good for them. Therefore, Psychological Hedonism states that “agents” naturally seek pleasure. Hedonism can also be combined with ethical egoism - the claim that individuals should seek their own good - to make ethical hedonism the claim that we should act so as to produce our own pleasure. We know that Freud is known for his idea that sexual desire is the primary motivational force every human has. And that “sexual desire” is a form of pleasure. Freud’s philosophy, by its very essence, is an example of how hedonism works.
The church also has its own view of Hedonism. The idea behind Christian Hedonism is that humans are created for the sole purpose of enjoying God through knowing, praising and serving Him. The concept entails that pursuing one’s happiness in God is the ultimate in human pleasure; that the highest pleasure is regarded as something which is long term, and not found in indulgence but in a life devoted to God. This form of hedonism is blatant among priests and other church workers who devoted their lives in serving God. But one cannot be a priest or a nun just to serve God. One can achieve the ‘pleasure’ in serving Him just by living a normal life and maintaining a good social relationship.
The concept of hedonism is too broad for this paper to cover. I have just stated some important highlights about this topic. The concept of Hedonism has been defined. If we are to reflect on the activities that we do everyday, we can say that indeed, the concept of hedonism is somehow valid. We study, because we want to land a stable job, and eventually, gain money which will be used to sustain our daily needs. And the sustainment of such needs means fulfillment of pleasure. Because it is a pleasure to feed ourselves, to sleep, to be clean, to bathe. Well, that’s based on my point of view, at least. Because the idea of pleasure or the thing that gives pleasure depends on the person, depending on what makes him happy. Some may find pleasure on material things – jewelry, signature clothes, designer perfume, and the like. Some sees happiness in doing church works – the priests and nuns and pastors --, some in emotional aspects – being loved and cared upon. It only means that the pursuit of happiness depends on each person. This also includes the fact that people differ in terms of what makes them happy, and to what degree of pleasure or happiness they are experiencing. We must not also let ourselves be blinded by this concept. Like any other philosophies, this has also its own weaknesses. But this paper only focuses on how this philosophy is related to man’s actions. It is also important to note that the thought of achieving pleasure as the by-product of every activity is a very motivating aspect. If we’ll think that what we’re doing is something that makes us happy, it invigorates us in a way that we strive harder or do better in our endeavors, which makes it a positive asset to human progress

Life after Death

Is there life after death? Theists believe there is. Atheists, Agnostics and some philosophies say otherwise. Members of non-theistic religions such as Buddhism believe in reincarnation. But is there really is life after death?
Plato, in his Dialogues of Plato, defines death as the separation of soul and body. He believes that true philosophers live for the sake of dying – that is, philosophers must live thinking about the death they deserve and then spends the rest of his life preparing for it for him to obtain the greatest good in the other world after he dies. He also stated that our body is a source of endless trouble, making us impure and thus, increases the need of the soul to be separated for it to be purified. For he also believed that one can only find wisdom in his purity. Based on his thoughts, I can infer that he believes in life after death for he believes in the separation of the soul from the body and that there can be no life without soul. But the problem with his statements is this: Where do the souls go when they get separated from the body?
On the other hand, David Hume doesn’t believe in afterlife. He believed that everything is common between soul and body, that the organs of the one are all of them the organs of the other. Therefore, the existence of the one must be dependent on the other. He believed that nothing in this world is everlasting or perpetual, and that includes the body and soul. Thus, he believed that there’s no life after death. But we know that one thing leads to another. So, if afterlife doesn’t exist, how come the thought of it existed? Was it just imagination? We know that the mind cannot produce an idea without a basis. So where does the idea of afterlife came from?
Immortality means immunity from death. And this is what Soren Kierkegaard believed. He stated in his Concluding Unscientific Postscripts that immortality couldn’t be proved at all. That the fault does not lie in the proofs but in the fact that people will not understand that this question is nonsense. He believed that immortality is subjective. But then again, people differ in beliefs. So, simply put, there’s no absolute or general answer to the question.

drama

i just want to update my friendster blog. that's all.
i like what lorra, my blockmate, said awhile ago during our histo4. 'a man's happiest moment is his weakest'. i guess its indeed true. but then again, i really think it also applies to women.
the society is your worst enemy. my professor in KOM II said that. it's a bit funny that a teacher who teaches filipino had said something in english. but i liked it. our KOM prof rocks!
exams tomorrow on Nat Sci. practical exam on social dancing, exams on histo 4 and 5 on monday. hell.
recently, we just got the results of our exams last year. i passed it all. and yet it just passed. that's all. sometimes, it makes me realize how stupid i am.
and yet all of the sudden, the thought of being optimistic this whole new year somewhat cheered me up. i know my scores are not that high, and, compared to the ones i got in high school, its not a good one. and yet i must not wallow in despair. because i deserve it. i deserve the score. although its not that high, yet it's still considerable. i passed. but it doesn't mean i settle for that score. it's just that after the hardship, the sweat, i passed. i expect no one will understand me because my view of things is not the same as yours, as theirs. but i just want to stress that i deserve to be congratulated, to be happy, to be thankful of what i got without really settling for less.
i know someone very important in my life is disappointed on me. and yet, i deserve the right to say that i am also disappointed in her, in YOU! im disappointed because you dont understand me. you have become one of those persons that i hated. in your eyes i am a failure. and everytime you look at me i feel that i am. whenever i tell you how im so happy on passing this exam, you always say that its not worth celebrating, because i JUST passed.
you're mind has been contaminated with ideas you gain from people who are cripple-minded. they do not understand me, and so they continue to stress that i am useless, that i am a failure because i didn't make the right choices, that i didn't make any efforts, that i am so not good at academics, and that i am only good in making people sad. didnt they realize what they're doing to me?! thay humiliate me all the time. whenever they're around, i just dont feel comfortable. and i hate them. i hate them that i wanna curse them to death. dont they know the aftermath of their statements? yeah. they're just mere words. and yet they're more painful than being stabbed. they go right through my soul, totally devastating my whole self. and then there's you. who also mimicks their technique. who always make me feel that i am nothing but a big pain in the ass. and then there's one sad thing to note. the wounds brought by those 'mere' words could never be healed.
things were different two years ago. you supported me, in all my endeavors, not just financially, but emotionally and morally. those things provided me with wings for me to realize my dreams. those gave me confidence to try and to learn. those helped me to stand up every time i fail, everytime i make a mistake. but then again, 'those' things are gone now.
now, it feels like i am imprisoned. i am ashamed because my stupid decisions brought you, us here. in a deeper and much much more difficult ocean. you keep stating that i must not settle for anything else. and yet this, everything we own right now, every experience, almost everything, are just things which are less. and that bothers me all the time. i am deeply humiliated for all the wrong-doings i have done. i am sorry for bringing up more problems. but please understand that i am doing the best that i can for all of us. i know this is not my best, but i am trying to be my best. i continue to learn everyday. and there's only one remedy i know that could aid me aside from God, your understanding. your support, morally, emotionally, and financially. your love. i need you. you're my strenght. my inspiration. so please dont give up.

an inch could kill me

"This won't be the most exciting day you have ever had, but you won't be bored"
so my horoscope goes. i dont believe on horoscopes. i just copy love reading them. then plagiarise them. paste them on my photo captions. who would know?
i enjoy reading jessica zafra's works. twisted? yeah. love that/ she's mean. i mean, she writes what she really thinks. not afraid to express. that's why i salute her.
when i say "not afraid to express", she doesn't care if someone gets hurt [well, at least that what i think]. but her being "mean" is amusing. she's great. really.
oh well. why relieved? i just got home from a dentist. i had my teeth cleaned, and one was pulled out. relieved because the one that keeps on hurting me was removed. haha. i couldn't be much happier for that.
to maintain equilibrium, i wanna share to you the sad part. i dont have molar teeth anymore. the one pulled out was an enermous left molar tooth. cant chew properly anymore. well, for the moment. but i could get use to it though. in God's time. *cries*
my right molar tooth is dysfunctional anymore. the reason? why the heck should i tell you? the reason must be kept safe in a grimmauld [i dont know if thats the right spelling] place. prior to the event, i conjured the dentist not to tell anyone about it. he's got the fidelity charm on him.
yeah. we visited my aunt and her two kids [which were also as hard-headed as I]. but they're sweet to look at, though. and im not.
lunch there was like a farewell party to my swelling, hurting, killing and many other -ings tooth. *awww*
i ate like it's the last time of my life. then i brushed my tooth. i wanted to ready the tooth for his departure. i want him out clean yet bloody.
but i also let him kissed coke goodbye. ice cream was also there. they hugged, and made love, too. now they're forever apart. interesting. i like that idea.
tooth must have felt his death because when we rode a jeepney to the dentist's clinic, he throbbed in grief. and i sure do felt him. i was sad and irritated as well. but i had to let him, after all, its his last time.
now he's gone. and ive never felt this way before. i swear. i didn't copied a line from a song. really.
God bless. may He rest in peace.

napupunding ilaw

Sa bahay ng kaibigan ko siya nakita. Namamalantsa.
Amin iyong bahay.
Kayo ho? Tatlong libo din kada buwan. At may 200 pang allowance kada linggo. Parehas pala tayo.
Nasaan po ba asawa niyo? Nagtatrabaho din po ba siya? Ah. Wala siyang permanenteng trabaho.
Lima. Ang bunso na lang ang nag-aaral. Second year High school.
May kanser yun.
Po?!
May kanser si Aling Linda.
Po? Kanser? Paano? Bakit? Anong kanser?
Noong nakaraang taon pa niya nalaman sakit niya.

sam_michelle_her: haay...

sam_michelle_her: game na...

rdemonic_titan: what do you want to say.

sam_michelle_her: when we made the deal, i was thinking, it's no big deal kasi how many months plang naman taung magkakilala...

rdemonic_titan: and...?

sam_michelle_her: AKALA ko, hndi ka naman maapektuhan... but i can see that is not the case,,,

rdemonic_titan: hmm.

sam_michelle_her: IF I KNEW BETTER,... hindi ko na sana ginawa iyon...

rdemonic_titan: so..?

rdemonic_titan: ano plan mo?

sam_michelle_her: so now, i want to ask you and i wish you'd tell me the truth... in favor ka ba sa gnwa nating deal? if yes, are you sure. if no, then anong kailangan kong gawin...

rdemonic_titan: uhmm. honestly, hindi ako pabor.

rdemonic_titan: hmm

rdemonic_titan: we dont need to break the bond. we dont need to break our friendship.

rdemonic_titan: i mean, dahil lang sa sinabi ko sa lib? para un lang?

sam_michelle_her: hindi lang iyong sa lib...

rdemonic_titan: ok. so ano pa ung mga reasons?

rdemonic_titan: ano pa ung ibang reasons?

sam_michelle_her: db nung start nung classes, parang close naman tau?

rdemonic_titan: yip.

rdemonic_titan: :)

rdemonic_titan: natatawa ako sa sinabi mo.

rdemonic_titan: iniiwasan mo nga ako. and yes may gusto ako sau.

rdemonic_titan: noon ah.

rdemonic_titan: noon pa un.

rdemonic_titan: ewan ko. kasi once i get to know the person, na sinasabi kong crush ko, nawawala ang gusto ko.

sam_michelle_her: tapos sabi mo mahal mo ung mga kaibigan mo... not that i don't love my friends pero ang mahal ko iyong mga long time friends ko...

sam_michelle_her: i care about my new friends pero hindi ko pa masasabing mahal ko sila,...

rdemonic_titan: ah. so binigyan mo ng ibang meaning ung sinasabi ko.

rdemonic_titan: hmm.

sam_michelle_her: hindi sa ganoon... iba lang tlga iyong perception ko ng pagibig...

sam_michelle_her: pra bang, ang hirap paniwalaan...

rdemonic_titan: hmm

rdemonic_titan: hmm

sam_michelle_her: pra bang ang 'talkshit' ng mga sinasabi mo pero opinion mo un so i have to respect that...

sam_michelle_her: hndi iyong mga sinasabi mo ngaun ah... ung dati... ung last tym....

rdemonic_titan: kelan?

sam_michelle_her: nung 9.18.07

sam_michelle_her: tinandaan m tlga

rdemonic_titan: haha. hindi kaya.

rdemonic_titan: bakit. ano bang pinagsasabi ko sau nung 9.18.07

sam_michelle_her: na importante mga kaibigan mo kasi mahal mo cla... by the transitive property, edi mahalga din ako... parang ganun... parang ang 'talkshit' para sa akin...

sam_michelle_her: kasi hndi ako ganoon...

rdemonic_titan: hmm. kasi nga hindi ka sanay. un un eh.

sam_michelle_her: may malaking wall ang puso ko... wla akong pinapapasok...

sam_michelle_her: so un an un...

sam_michelle_her: patawarin ang hindi perpekto...

rdemonic_titan: haha. sige ha. ako naman

rdemonic_titan: ok lang sau?

sam_michelle_her: okey lang...

sam_michelle_her: wla namng bad words yan?

rdemonic_titan: un nga. i had a crush on you. take note ha. HAD.

sam_michelle_her: past tense

sam_michelle_her: gets

sam_michelle_her: okey

sam_michelle_her: ... and then...

rdemonic_titan: like sa nangyari sa atin. we got close. esp nung time ng science natin. and evrything. ung 'date' natin sa sm manila.. haha.

rdemonic_titan: kaya nawala.

sam_michelle_her: okey...

sam_michelle_her: go on...

rdemonic_titan: *nageenjoy

rdemonic_titan: ts iniiwasan mo nga ako

rdemonic_titan: i was wondering why.

rdemonic_titan:

rdemonic_titan: haha

rdemonic_titan: so ano ba. maeron ba talaga?

sam_michelle_her: wala..

sam_michelle_her: hndi mo ba binasa ung primer natin sa poh?

sam_michelle_her: ph?

sam_michelle_her: db sabi dun wag daw makipagrelasyon sa blockmate or ka yr level mo?

rdemonic_titan: binasa. but it was purely crush. ts madaling naglaho. aun

sam_michelle_her: kasi nga... AKALA ko it is no big deal.....

rdemonic_titan: oo

rdemonic_titan: and...?

sam_michelle_her: so I THOUGHT okey lang kung hindi na tau mag usap... I didn't think it would affect you...

rdemonic_titan: actually, hindi ako galit. hindi ako bitter. except lang sa apgkawala ng friend ko. un lang. but after that, ok na ako. i mean, all my misfortune was just a byproduct of my recklessness and bad attitudes. walang kinalaman ang deal natin.

rdemonic_titan: hindi nga. nung simula, oo. pero after that, hindi. may ilangan nga lang. kasi nga, hindi lang ako sanay na may ganun. i mean, may blockmate ako na 'kailangang hindi pansinin'. ganung stuff. kasi nga im makulit and pasaway and papansin. so ang hirap ng ganun.gets?

rdemonic_titan: naiilang lang ako. un lang

sam_michelle_her: gets..

sam_michelle_her: sure ka na?

rdemonic_titan: tsaka i'll tell you a secret

sam_michelle_her: ano un?

rdemonic_titan: tsaka i was not serious noong nag im tau noong 9.18.07. sa simula, hindi ako seryoso. pero nang maramdaman kong seryoso ka, natawa ako. haha. kaya naging seryoso na din ako. haha. un lang.

sam_michelle_her: ahh....

sam_michelle_her: okey...

rdemonic_titan: pati ung blog ko noong 9.18.07, drama lang un.

rdemonic_titan: haha

sam_michelle_her: sure ka na b tlga dyan?

rdemonic_titan: ano ba kasi gusto mo.

rdemonic_titan: anong gusto mong mangyari.

sam_michelle_her: wla naman..

sam_michelle_her: kasi i'm not totally heartless*

rdemonic_titan: hmm. plastic. hehe. heartless ka kaya. totally. haha

rdemonic_titan: so, ano. forever na ba tong ilangan natin?

rdemonic_titan: hindi mo babawiin?

sam_michelle_her: meron kbng proposition?

rdemonic_titan: uhmm. may proposal. haha

rdemonic_titan: may proposal ako.

rdemonic_titan: bawiin na lang kaya natin ung deal.

sam_michelle_her: tapos?

sam_michelle_her: un lng?

rdemonic_titan: un lang. ano gusto mo, magkarelasyon tau? bwahaha

sam_michelle_her: tgnan mo... yang mga comments mong ganyan, feeling ko nanamng may gusto k tlga skn... nuh ba...

rdemonic_titan: haha. ay naku. kahit nga kay rl ginaganyan ko. ano ka ba.

sam_michelle_her: eh naiilang nga ako... iyon nga ung ayaw ko eh...

resolution.

i felt as if im into changing, but for the better.
last night, i dont know what went into me. but i have decided to move the smokey mountain out of my room into the garbage bin. guess i just realized how untidy and cluttered is my room. actually, its not really 'my' room. i just slept there, but i dont own it. ughh! whatever.
it was really a mess. my room, i mean. from the papers and used cotton and ballpens and un-eaten chocolates to the bus tickets and candy wrappers, you would really wonder if the person sleeping in the room is still a person.
okay. i admit. im a messy person. sometimes, i cant even throw scratch papers in the bin, thinking that someday, they might still be of use. it may sound weird, but i sometimes think that they get hurt when i throw them away. too childish.
but there are also times when i seem to be obsessive compulsive. is that right? guess so. i mean, there are times when i cant really stand the filthiness and all, making me summon the bin and dispose them all. that's just what happened last night.
i really dont know what's gotten into me. all i remember was myself, lying in the bed, imagining about my love life [a bit exaggerated.] and then standing up and getting the bin. there was really some sort of pressure, heat, energy in the room that makes me sick. and cleaning the room seemed to be the most effective solution. and so it was. when everything was kept and cleaned, peace was restored in the kingdom. *angels began to sing*
actually, i was reflecting on the past events of my life. it feels like i am a loser. a total failure. and i needed a dramatic change. a change for the better. it really feels like all the bad lucks and demons and bad spirits are all locked in the room, along with all the garbage. and so i needed to dispose them out. all the despairs and sadness and bad attitudes went away with the garbage.
actually, all i need was a very motivated start. i have already started with my feet. they were dirty. but i already brushed them. it was really useless to mention the feet. but i guess i have to. sorry.
and then there's the room. i have cleaned it. and im gonna start fresh and clean. it is already conducive to learning.
the last, but definitely not the least, is myself. i have to set myself that i am gonna change for the better. i must have this certain mindset. and i think it works since i have understood the topic we discussed today. and so i hope that this resolution will go on.
and that made me wonder: was the result for 4th math depex has anything to do with all these 'change for the better' thing? hmm.

reaksiyon sa SONA

"We were able to strengthen our economy because of the fiscal reforms that we adopted at such great cost to me in public disapproval. But I would rather be RIGHT than POPULAR.
- Her Excellency, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
Ika nga ng pangulo, Last year, I unveiled the Super Regions, such as Mindanao,to spread development away from an inequitable concentration in Metro Manila.

"In the five-million-year-long lineage that connects us to the common ancestors of apes and human beings, there have been many Adams and many Eves. In the beginning was the word, but the vocal communications of our most distant hominid ancestors five million years or so ago probably didn’t really differ from those of the ape-hominid ancestor." This is what Philip Lieberman, a linguist at Brown University, commented in a chapter he entitled ‘What, When, and Where did Eve Speak to Adam and He to Her?. Using biblical terminology, Lieberman had written a year earlier: ‘For with speech came a capacity for thought that had never existed before, and that has transformed the world. In the beginning was the word’.
When God created the first human beings—Adam and Eve—He created them in His own image (Genesis 1:26-27). This likeness unquestionably included the ability to engage in intelligible speech via human language. In fact, God spoke to them from the very beginning of their existence as humans (Genesis 1:28-30). Hence, they possessed the ability to understand verbal communication—and to speak themselves! God gave very specific instructions to the man before the woman was even created (Genesis 2:15-17). Adam gave names to the animals before the creation of Eve (Genesis 2:19-20). Since both the man and the woman were created on the sixth day, the creation of the man preceded the creation of the woman by only hours. So, Adam had the ability to speak on the very day that he was brought into existence! That same day, God put Adam to sleep and performed history’s first human surgery. He fashioned the female of the species from a portion of the male’s body. God then presented the woman to the man (no doubt in what we would refer to as the first marriage ceremony). Observe Adam’s response: ‘And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of man"’ (Genesis 2:23). Here is Adam—less than twenty-four hours old—articulating intelligible speech with a well-developed vocabulary and advanced powers of expression. Note also that Eve engaged in intelligent conversation with Satan (Genesis 3:1-5). An unbiased observer is forced to conclude that Adam and Eve were created with oral communication capability. Little wonder, then, that God said to Moses: ‘Who had made man’s mouth? ... Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say’ (Exodus 4:11-12).
Ang paniniwala ni Lieberman ay pinatunayan sa bibliya, Genesis 1:3, sa bersong ito : "Then GOD SAID, 'Let there be light,' AND THERE WAS LIGHT." Sinaad din sa bibliya ang tungkol dito sa Genesis 1:26-27, "Then God said: Let us make man in my image, after my likeness. God created man in his image."

miseducation of filipinos

A Few General Comments
The first thing that I would really like to comment about is the choice of vocabulary of the author. The author blatantly has a wide command of the English language. And it’s such a good thing for him. But sometimes not good for me, cause I really have to prepare our mini dictionary on my side in case I’ll encounter an alien word.
On the content, it’s really not a waste of time reading the article. Not only will you learn new vocabulary but also your eyes will be opened to a fact that has long existed in which our eyes are just so blinded to see, because we are just so pre-occupied with the idea that the Americans are totally of help. But then again, we must remember that the world is created with symmetry, that in every evil, there’s goodness, and that in the presence of advantage, there’s a disadvantage.
Education is indeed a very vital factor for one’s development. And as we all know, through education, one’s mind is molded because of the teachings, ideas, and values taught to him. Due to this fact, it’s only either of the two that will happen: the person will become productive provided that he was taught with the right things, or, the person will become otherwise since he acquired negative things. So here comes Renato Constantino, educating us the right way.
I wrote some learning and comments from selected parts of the article. And these are as follows:
Compared to US, our country is still in the process of improvisation or still underdeveloped. Culturally speaking, US has firm tradition or has it’s own culture which was not influenced by other cultures. It has developed freely which sprang from its indigenous people. Indeed, US is the master of it’s own house. And provided that we are a corollary of the certain country’s intense desire to spread their seed, we couldn’t deny the fact that we have already adopted some of their cultures and traditions, including their language. American education stresses the importance of internationalism and we simply follow the lead without knowing that our very own foundation of nationalism is weak, making this move disadvantageous. To site is our national virtue of hospitality which, according to the article, has transformed into a stupid vice. (Adoption of Western Values)
Due to the failure of Philippine education, we became so ignorant to the fact that we allowed aliens to strip us of our possessions and wealth. We even praise them for their success, not knowing that some of it is mainly caused by us. They even labeled our country as paradise, but as a matter of fact, Philippines is a heaven just for them but not for some of our countrymen. Because we are still an indirect colony of other countries, many Filipinos fought for complete or total independence and freedom, getting nothing in return but negative thoughts and opposition. Due to colonial education, Filipinos find it hard to grasp the nationalistic principles that must be learned. (Un-Filipino Filipinos)
For a child to master a foreign language, he must first master his own. Because no one is brave enough to advocate the use of our native language as the medium of instruction, the use of English has become dominant. Because a lot are illiterate on this, the use of English as a medium of teaching is an ineffective step, thus producing citizens who do not have mastery of English as well as their native language due to the deliberate neglection to it. Simply put, the masses are becoming more and more illiterate even to their own language. Since many find it hard to use English, many also find it hard to express and lack of expression prevents learning or development of thought, leading to cultural stagnation. (Impediments to Thought)
It is true that we are being dumped with American forms of media. And we can’t deny the fact that mass media is a great factor in molding our character and ideals. It greatly affects our system. Due to this fact, we can’t help but get affected and infected with the whole Americanization thing. And the only way to cure this? Philippine Education. I agree with what is stated that Philippine Education should produce men and women who are not only educated or who do not only know how to read and write and add and subtract, but also men and women who know and who are aware of the present situation of the country and should do something about it for it’s betterment. Philippine education should not only teach the students the basic knowledge and skill but also inculcate within their hearts and minds the values and teachings of our fellow noble countrymen such as Bonifacio and Rizal. Filipino should not only go to school to get a degree or diploma, but should also embed within themselves the values and characteristics that this drowning nation needs. As a saying goes, "Application should always go with education, because the latter is nil in the absence of the former." (Needed: Filipinos)
Two Parts I Like Most To React
a) The Language Problem
Until now, the issue on what medium of teaching should be used is still unresolved. It has been long debated, but still majority is in favor of the English language. Even this fact suggests and strongly proves that we are still an indirect colony of United States and are still dependent on them.
But based on my personal point of view, I am in favor of the use of English as the medium of instruction because first of all, English is the international language. We cannot communicate with other nationalities without it. But this doesn’t really mean that my mind is polluted with the Americanization thing. Or maybe is it? I don’t know. What I’m trying to depict is that the use of English is a practical way for us, Filipinos to be globally competitive. Though I am in favor of the English medium, it does not mean that I look down our native tongue or I completely reject it.
b) Barrier to Democracy
English is considered to be a barrier to democracy. This is very visible during campaigns and public addresses. We knew that most politicians communicate to the masses with the use of such language. I don’t know if they do so just because they don’t want to inform the masses of their hidden agenda or they just want to impress the masses that they are English-literate? Or they just consider the native language as the language of the uneducated because of their belief that English-literates belong to an elite group? Either of those, one thing is for sure: they don’t consider the fact that only a few could articulate thoughts in English. Only a few could even read and write with the use of that language. Due to the lack of command of English language, the masses who only half-understand what is said to them are already contented to leave everything to the leaders. As what is said in the article, "people don’t even think it is their duty to know, or that they are capable of understanding national problems." It’s such a sad fact.
Is The Article Still Relevant, Or Not?
The article has presented enough hard and believable facts. So I really think the article is still relevant and should be disseminated. The author has convinced me with his ideas and opinion. So, I’m sure he could also convince others the same way that he did to me. He bombarded me with hard facts and great ideas. His write-up is great. It’s indeed worth reading.
Considering the present situation that our country is facing right now, I think this article could help a lot. Filipinos nowadays have already that colonial mentality. And maybe they’ll change if they’ll read this. Our country needs people who are willing to change our country for the better which will benefit the many, not only himself. Because we are so dependent on America, I think it’s time to wake our fellow countrymen to this fact.

reaksiyon sa romulus d grayt

Konting Pangkalahatang Reaksiyon.

health in 1980's

Primary Health Care and the Drug Policy
During the last years of the Marcos administration, the Ministry of Healths emphasis was on primary health care, which was adopted as a national strategy in 1981.
State of Nation's Health
In the early 1980s, there was an obvious shift in the top causes of mortality. Although pneumonia and tuberculosis still ranked number one and three respectively, lifestyle diseases slowly climbed the list. Diseases of the heart (second), diseases of the vascular system (fourth), and cancers (fifth) now dominated as major health problems.
However, the top ten causes of morbidity were still mostly infectious in nature: influenza, gastroenteritis, bronchitis, accidents, diseases of the heart, tuberculosis, pneumonia, diseases of the vascular system, mental disorders, avitaminosis and other nutritional state.
Primary Health Care
The Primary Health Care movement began with the Community Based Health Projects (CBHPs) of the mid-seventies. These CBHPs were implemented at the grassroots level and sought to find solutions to the peoples health and socio-economic problems. With the WHO/UNICEF Alma Ata Declaration in 1978, Primary Health Care became a preferred strategy with the battle cry of "Health for All."
Primary Health Care had five concepts: equity in health care, socially acceptable strategies, self-reliance, a multi-sectoral approach and emphasis on preventive medicine. People in the community were tapped, taught and trained in basic health concepts.
On December 2, 1982, an Integrated Health Care Delivery System (E.O. 851) was set up, and the following year, breastfeeding and proper complementary feeding were promoted. Also, an Interorganization Committee on Nutrition (ICON) was organized in 1983.
However, due to the inadequate health budget, the countrys infant immunization coverage declined to an all-time low of 25%. With the unsteady political climate, health also suffered.
Edsa 1 Revolution
After the Marcos administration was overthrown by the People Power Revolution, President Corazon Aquino quickly restored the ways of democracy. Clearly prioritizing health, Aquino increased the health budget from four billion pesos to 11 billion pesos. This translated to a rise in GNP for health from average of 2.8% during the Marcos years to an average of 4.2% for the Aquino years.
April 13, 1987 marked the return of the Department of Health from the previous Ministry of Health with Dr. Alfredo R. A. Bengzon as secretary of health for the new government.
The National Drug Policy
Since 30% of the health departments budget was spent on drugs, the governments new emphasis was on quality yet affordable drugs. On April 30, 1987, during the inauguration of the new Bureau of Food and Drugs laboratory in Alabang, President Aquino announced the Philippine National Drug Policy (PNDP), which provided the guidelines for rational use of quality drugs.
In the meantime, the year 1987 also saw the beginning of the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) and the passing of the Philippine Milk Code.
Health Secretary Dr. Bengzon writes that one important component of the National Drug Policy is the Generics Act of 1988 (R.A. 6675), which required the use of generic names in the labeling, prescribing and dispensing of medicine. This Bill resulted in a heated controversy involving the pharmaceutical companies and medical doctors. But eventually, on September 13, 1988, the Generics Act was signed into law.
Despite this controversy, Dr. Bengzon claims major achievements in health during his term. By the end of the eighties, infant immunization coverage rose from 25% to almost 90%.
In 1989, the Department of Health drafted the National Hospital Service Development Program, which laid out options for the construction and development of hospitals throughout the country. Foremost is the rebuilding of the San Lazaro Hospital compound. The same was done to many other hospitals and rural health units.
As the eighties ended, the increasing burden of both infectious diseases and lifestyle diseases became apparent. The Health Department geared towards addressing these issues in the challenging nineties.
